he Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Regional Fisheries Office I (BFAR-RFO1) conducted a tree planting activity in Barangay Pilar and Sitio Pantar, Villa Hermosa last April to June 2012.

Twenty nine thousand (29,000) mangrove propagules were given per barangay to be planted along the riverine areas to serve as protection from soil erosion. Mangroves also improve the aquaculture areas of Sta. Cruz by serving as a sanctuary for fish and crustaceans.

The BFAR-RFO1 also gives a two-peso (Php2.00) incentive (for every propagule planted) to hired mangrove planters in every barangay. Hired planters are composed of Barangay Police/ Tanod, Out-of-School-Youth (OSY) and one representative from every indigent family.
