he Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur works for the development of its different banner programs – rice, corn, fisheries, livestock and people empowerment program.

The Livestock Sector aims to develop the livestock industry within the municipality wherein different activities are conducted to improve the living standards of livestock raisers especially in the backyard level.

Technical assistance is given to interested raisers on the prevention and treatment of diseases through information dissemination, periodic vaccination and regular monitoring and surveillance on the occurrence of diseases. Genetic improvements are also introduced by the infusion of hybrid stocks to the native breeds through natural and artificial means. Through artificial insemination done by a trained artificial inseminator of the MAO, the semen of hybrid cattle is introduced to the female reproductive organ for fertilization and later, for the production of hybrid calves.

Deworming and vitamin injections are given to the different barangays free of charge.

The MAO also aids in the Municipality’s income-generation by conducting large animal branding which collects minimal fees from clients.
